Sterbende sind meist in ihrer Autonomie, in ihrer Entscheidung- und Gestaltungsfähigkeit stark eingeschränkt. Immobilität und zunehmende Isolation verstärken ein Gefühl der Hilflosigkeit, auch gegenüber den Begleitenden. Es kann zu Krisen kommen. Mit Hilfe psychotherapeutischer Ansätze kann eine gelingende Interaktion entstehen, auf deren Grundlage neue Möglichkeiten entwickelt werden können. Die persönliche Resilienz und die individuellen Ressourcen der Sterbenden und deren Angehörigen bilden die Grundlage für die psychologische orientierte Begleitung.

Ziel dieses Buches ist nicht, die Begleitenden zu psychotherapeutischen Fachkräften auszubilden, sondern Verständnishilfen und Interventionsanregungen zur Beruhigung Sterbender in Krisensituationen vorzustellen.
