Experience the primitive beauty of Bizen-yaki, one of Japan’s "Six Ancient Kilns," with this exquisite set of four (4) handcrafted plates. Originating from Okayama Prefecture, these pieces are formed from iron-rich clay and wood-fired at intense temperatures for up to two weeks.
Completely unglazed, the unique reddish-brown hues and smoky "Yohen" patterns are created solely by the dance of fire and ash within the kiln. These plates are a true celebration of the Wabi-sabi aesthetic—valuing natural simplicity and the rustic beauty of imperfection.
Key Characteristics
Exceptional Hardness: Fired at temperatures exceeding 1200°C, Bizen ware is renowned for its durability and resistance to chipping.
Natural Artistry: No two plates are identical. The distinct patterns—terracota toasted orange—are a natural gift from the wood-fire process.
Tactile Texture: The unglazed, matte surface has a sophisticated, organic feel that adds a grounding element to any table setting.
Versatile Use: Ideally sized for small mains, appetisers, side dishes, traditional Japanese wagashi (sweets), trays, etc.
