After 71 years at their homely, but ageing Layer Road Ground, Colchester United moved to a brand new 10,000, expandable to 18,000, seater stadium for the 2008–09 season.

The Who’s Who of Colchester United celebrates the players who have played first-team football during those ‘Layer Road years’.

The appearance and goal statistics for every player are listed, along with a career history and many previously unseen photographs.

From 1930s goalkeeper Ronnie Dunn, who ‘bugled’ his teammates on to the pitch with The Post-Horn Gallop, to surprise wartime guest internationals and products of the present-day youth scheme who have progressed to the Premiership, they are all there.

About the Authors

Jeff Whitehead is a lifelong Colchester United supporter who has had two historical books published on Colchester United, as well as providing articles for the matchday programme and official website.

Kevin Drury, a club historian with Jeff, is also a lifelong fan and editor of the Colchester United youth-team programme and has been a periodic contributor to the matchday programme for over 20 years.
