The manual consists of 12 sessions, each dedicated to a particular trauma symptom, such as nightmares, flashbacks, avoidance, dissociation, hyperarousal, affective lability, impulsivity, numbing, self-injury, addictions, sexual victimization and menÕs issues. Each session also teaches a cognitive behavioral skill, including grounding, rescripting nightmares, behavior scripts, progressive muscle relaxation, anger management skills, positive distractions, and identifying and expressing feelings, which are designed to help patients deal with trauma symptoms. The Men's Trauma Manual is a part of the Syndrome Specific Group Therapy (SSGT) Program for serious mental illness (SMI).
