- In the spirit of The Refusal of Time, this publication relates the creation of William Kentridge’s new multifaceted work The Head & the Load
- A spectacle-performance exploring the little known history of the African porters who were part of the First World War combining music, dance, acting, screenings, and mechanised sculptures. In the same polymorphic vein as the show, the book immerses the reader in the creative process of Kentridge’s work presenting images of the performance as well as thoughts, maps, sketches, drawings developed along its creation. Collage is at the heart of the reflection building the piece and the book, where several elements and fragments are brought together “to find a provisional history” as William Kentridge explains
- The Head & the Load highlights the political, human and sociological repercussions of colonial history in today’s world. Several essays shed light on the multiple facets of this performance through, first, a historical context by David Olusoga, texts on the making of the show by William Kentridge, composer Philip Miller, choreographer Gregory Maqoma as well as music co-composer Thuthuka Sibisi. In the last essay, Homi K. Bhabha relates the different aspects of colonial history addressed in the show. The Head & the Load has already been presented in London and New York and will travel to the Grande Halle de La Villette in Paris, in 2021

Great debut from Kodama Tales
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
Quality wise the book is top notch. The paper is thick with basically zero bleed through, and on top of that the color pages are included as well. As this is my first time reading Baki I can't give a comment on the wider story, but what's contained in this volume is some solid dumb fun.

"She was dead when I got there," Mom casually said
Format: Paperback
I've faithfully followed Living the Line's Smudge manga releases up to this. Actually I had this one preordered for ages but Amazon never shipped it to me and I only noticed it was in stock by chance. I had to cancel and reorder it. What the heck, Amazon?
Anyhow, it's definitely a horror story but also a species of superhero story, or at least a person-with-superpowers story, without the encumbrances of lore, heavy character- or world-building, a continuing narrative in a shared universe, or anything else. There's really nothing you could call a plot. Stripped down and even rough as it is, it's utterly engrossing, surreal reading for me.
A lot of my manga reading is horror but I've also been enjoying superhero manga like this or, for example, Hikari-Man FAR more than anything from the Big Two because of the greater freedom the Japanese works exhibit in how they conceptualize power(s) and heroism.

Awesome graphic
Format: Kindle
This graphic tale is engaging, thought providing. Leads you into taking another look into the events of the past as you grew up in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Cool blend of a crazy bend of history, horror, and secret organizations of control.
