Zilzal is the Arabic word for 'earthquake,' and there couldn't be a more fitting word to describe the collision of musical worlds on the debut album by the duo of guitarist Ayman Fanous and violinist Jason Kao Hwang. Beautifully recorded by Sal Mormando and mastered by Grammy winner Silas Brown, these improvisations were performed with no prior musical planning. But Fanous and Hwang have become so well-attuned to each other's gestures, moods, and trajectories that sometimes the music can sound through-composed. Figure and ground give way to each other seamlessly, and at times meld into one and the same. Throughout the recording, Fanous and Hwang employ the full palettes available to them, resulting in a music that is at once orchestral, cinematic, spontaneous, and at all times, visceral. In short, this is contemporary instrumental music of great beauty, depth, energy, and sensitivity. Mom says they have been working so far for that bloated feeling
As of late she's been getting more discomfort and these have been helping her with indigestion. They seem to be working as intended but of course she will continue to use them for a longer period so that hopefully those symptoms she was having reside. She likes that it overall helps support metabolism and balances the gut. The natural ingredients are a plus. Doesn't have to worry about any GMO's and additives. After the bottle runs out I'll probably buy another for her since they seem to help her upset stomach.

Video lectures, just as the subtitle promises
I was seduced into buying this set on the basis of NT Wright's reputation and advertising graphics showing Holy Land locations. Consequently, I didn't pay sufficient attention to the subtitle: "The New Testament in Its World: Video Lectures." And "lectures" is exactly what this set delivers. Talking heads, lecturing on the New Testament; sometimes in a studio, sometimes in eastern Mediterranean locations.
The content is solid evangelical biblical scholarship. My disappointment is the almost complete lack of engagement with the spectacular settings much of these films are shot in. It seems to me that Wright and his producers missed a real opportunity by failing more explicitly to relate their lecture content to the places where they're standing.
I give this set a three-star rating. The lectures are a perfectly fine introduction to the New Testament, if that's what you're looking for -- but you could put them on CDs or MP3s and listen in the car. The graphics add very little to these presentations.
