Survive being hunted, learn to fight on land, rescue The Twins and all captured and enslaved Mermaids, and discover the Purpose of Life - that should be enough for one Mermaid to do a book illustrated with digitally enhanced pencil drawings. As a child, Mermaid Amber Luna befriends a lost orphan Mermaid, Felicia, in the underwater Wild Rice of the Innocent River. They grow up together, and begin to lose their innocence when they witness LandMerms in scuba gear kidnap their friends The Twins, a talented singing duo. As they mature, Felicia becomes more confident and moody, and confesses to Amber that she grew up in TerraLandia and does not belong in the undersea City of Coral Arches. Felicia turns on Amber one day, and after a bloody fight, swims away from her childhood friend to disappear into the vastness of the oceans. The Mermaids' Earrings connect them to all known knowledge, but they refuse to give Amber any information about her lost friends. To find them, Amber swims across the cold North Seas to a shining city on an island and enters the capital of TerraLandia, a Miracle Mile that stretches along the shores of all continents. But thereÕs a problem - to stay without fear of deportation or enslavement, she must become a True Believer of the TerraMaid's Goddess' spokesperson, the Prime Minister. As Amber creates a new life for herself with a job and a social life, she discovers why many poor working girls of TerraLandia, ambitious and gullible ex-Mermaids, yearn for their oceanic City of Coral Arches and would rather continue their work to uphold the Creature Rights of all life on Earth. Will Amber survive the demands of her life on two legs, find Felicia, save The Twins, and solve the mystery of the Purpose of Life, and maybe, just maybe, find a way to save the Biosphere herself?

Wise Advice for the College-Bound Student
Format: Kindle
I read this book after reading Newport's other study guide How to Become a Straight A Student and was looking forward to more of his easy to understand, quickly read nuggets of wisdom. Although I found the advice in his previous book to be more helpful, I did fine some words of advice that I will surely put to use in my upcoming semester. Among the gems I found, Newport reminds students to "Study in Fifty-Minute Chunks" and "Learn to Listen." In these short chapters there are ideas to help the student better utilize their time by minimizing distractions and knowing exactly what to listen for in a lecture. By far my favorite and most memorable line from this book is "A good analogy is that writing is to a college student what shooting hoops is to a basketball player." Wise advice indeed. I would recommend this book to high school an college students alike. The chapters are short and jam packed with good advice.

Good for some
Format: Paperback
Good advice but it's written for college students that don't work. Not for someone who goes to night school like I do.

An excellent story well worth a read
Format: Kindle
This was so well written, I loved every second of it. It was a lovely take on vampires and what they are or can be. Spoilers: This wasn’t an easy read for me. How Miyako’s parents acted… that was my parents only worse in a lot of ways and only better in that they never hit me as an adolescent. So reading this brought up memories of the abuse I suffered. Even so, it is a really good story and I highly recommend. I hope to read more of her stories soon and follow Miyako and see how she and her family grow as characters.
