• The race was held on 21 April 1985 at the Autódromo do Estoril, Portugal. It was the second round of the 1985 FIA Formula One World Championship.

• Conditions were extremely challenging: overcast skies and heavy rain made for a difficult, slippery circuit. 

• Senna qualified on pole position, registering a time of 1:21.007. 

• In the race, Senna led from start to finish. Despite worsening weather, he extended a large gap to second place Michele Alboreto and ultimately won by over a lap ahead of most of the field.
