It combines a coated 5 mil outer ply with a 7. 5 mil inner ply, plus a 2 mil overtone control ring on the underside and small vent holes around the perimeter that eliminate stray harmonics. The result is a tight, focused crack with very short sustain. This 13 inch size is ideal for piccolo and smaller snare drums where overtones can get out of hand
