Patagonia built the Nano Puff Hoody for climbers who needed a weather-resistant, lightweight, packable synthetic insulation layer that could stay warm even when wet and hold up to seasons of hard use. Those same qualities have since made it the uncontested favorite midlayer for just about any outdoor pursuit, and for fishing it is the easy answer for cold mornings and changeable weather on the water.
The warmth comes from 60-gram PrimaLoft Gold Insulation Eco, a 100% postconsumer recycled polyester fill produced with P.U.R.E. technology. Because it is synthetic, it delivers excellent warmth for its weight and keeps insulating even when damp, which matters on a river where dew and spray are part of the day. The 100% recycled polyester ripstop shell carries a DWR finish made without intentionally added PFAS to shed light moisture.
This iteration adds real refinements. An evolved fit improves the shoulder fit and elbow articulation for better mobility, and a slightly larger hood lifts better and sits more comfortably at the chin. The signature horizontal brick quilting stabilizes the insulation for durability as an outer layer and low bulk under a shell. Details are dialed: a center-front zipper with a wicking interior storm flap and a chin zipper garage, two zippered handwarmer pockets, an internal zippered chest pocket that doubles as a stuffsack with a carabiner clip-in loop, and a drawcord-adjustable drop-tail hem to seal in warmth. It is sewn in a Fair Trade Certified factory.
