Country for Castoffs follows the life of several young people as they emigrate to and struggle to survive in early colonial America in the mid-sixteenth century. As these young people try to navigate stormy seas, outwit treacherous men, and survive devastating wars, they will learn the value of faith, forgiveness, freedom, family, and friendship. They provide multiple perspectives of these historical events from the viewpoints of the ordinary people who lived them.

Based on a true story. In the award-winning novel, Thrown to the Wind, nine-year-old Etienne flees 1660 France with his family to avoid arrest for religious heresy. They face robbers, pirates, two perilous sea voyages, and an uncertain future to chart a new destiny.

In book two, A Home in the Wilderness, a true story, twelve-year-old Etienne and his family try to survive in the 1663 untamed wilderness of Manhattan. They face conflicts with the Esopus tribe, divided loyalties, and danger to family and Lenape friends.

In book three, At the Mercy of the Sea, trouble is coming for Etienne Gayneau and his friends at home and at sea as the English prepare to invade New Netherland, pirates roam the oceans, and pandemics and storms threaten to turn their worlds upside down.

In book four, Charting a New Course, Etienne finds himself marooned on an island in the Caribbean in 1664 fighting disease, raids, slavery, and an unforgiving wilderness to find his way home, while back on Long Island, Abraham must rescue his little brother, Caleb, from an accused witch and a disastrous indentureship.

7 months after purchase
Size: 8.5 Wide, Color: Black
7 months after purchase. Still look good. Very comfortable right out of box. Outside edges of heels chipped away almost right away. Never seen that before. Brittle/ bad choice of rubber or design? Leather upper still looks pretty good with a little polish. Rubber soles wearing very well.
