Drawing recruits from all branches of the military, they included Army commandos, Naval commandos, and the Inter-Allied Commando regiment, which comprised soldiers from Belgium, Poland, Holland, and other countries.

Commandos fought in campaigns across Europe, Burma, and Africa, earning battle honors for many famous actions, including the arguably greatest raid of all – St. Nazaire. They were deployed in various configurations, from small units to full assault divisions, depending on the mission. Their superb training, aggressive tactics, excellent equipment, and lethal hand-to-hand combat skills instilled fear in their German, Italian, and Japanese enemies.
