Over Léonce Bocquet

Leonce Bocquet was een 19e-eeuwse wijnhandelaar en uitmuntend wijnmaker. Hij wordt gezien als een van de meest succesvolle in het onderhandelen in de Bourgogne. In 1889 redde hij Chateau du Clos de Vougeot van zijn ondergang door het kasteel te kopen. Hij investeerde het grootste gedeelte van zijn persoonlijke fortuin in het restaureren van het Chateau. Hij speelde ook een belangrijke rol in de levering van Bourgogne van hoge kwaliteit door heel Europa. Leonce ontdekte dat de kelders in Beaune erg geschikt zijn om wijn op te slaan. Hij kocht daarom huizen in Beaune om de kelders te kunnen gebruiken voor de opslag van wijn. Het huis, zonder de kelder, werd vervolgens verhuurd. Alle kelders zijn via gangen verbonden waardoor een netwerk aan kelders is ontstaan.
