Een felgeel sportief ensemble alsof hij rechtstreeks uit een film kwam lopen. Alles aan hem straalde controle uit. Hij zei weinig, maar hield de hele ruimte scherp in de gaten. Later werd mij door frequente bezoekers van het restaurant verteld dat hij inderdaad bekendstond als een echte boef.

Ik vond het een prachtig figuur om te schilderen. Niet vanwege criminaliteit, maar vanwege zijn uitstraling, stijl en aanwezigheid. Dat mysterieuze karakter heb ik geprobeerd te vangen in dikke zwarte lijnen, felle kleuren en een bijna maskervormig gezicht dat tegelijk krachtig, grappig en ongemakkelijk aanvoelt.

Weedboss gaat voor mij over straatcharisma, observatie en het soort mensen dat direct een verhaal oproept zonder dat ze iets hoeven te zeggen. Het werk heeft een rauwe energie, maar blijft tegelijkertijd stijlvol en speels door het kleurgebruik en de eenvoudige vormen.
