De Platanus hispanica, ook wel gewone plataan, is als leischerm een robuuste en populaire keuze voor het creëren van privacy en schaduw. Dankzij de grote, handvormige bladeren vormt deze boom een dicht scherm in het groeiseizoen. De opvallend afschilferende schors geeft de boom ook in de wintermaanden een decoratief karakter.

De takken zijn horizontaal geleid in een rek, waardoor de plataan een strak en vlak scherm vormt dat ideaal is als natuurlijke afscheiding of zonwering. De boom groeit snel, is goed bestand tegen snoei en verdraagt stedelijke omgevingen en luchtvervuiling uitstekend.
