De Douro is verdeeld in drie subregio's:

Samen met zijn zonen Mateus en João, beide gediplomeerde oenologen, produceert hij elk jaar weer prachtige authentieke Douro wijnen die een toonbeeld zijn van het lokale terroir.

De Douro is verdeeld in drie subregio's: Baixo Corgo, Cima Corgo en Douro Superior. De eerste heeft een mediterraan/Atlantisch microklimaat, de tweede mediterraan en de derde mediterraan/continentaal. Quinta do Monte Xisto ligt in de Douro Superior, in Vila Nova de Foz Côa, op de linkeroever van de rivier de Douro. Dit is de subregio met de laagste neerslagniveaus, met een jaarlijks gemiddelde van 400 mm.

In de regel loopt de rivier de Douro van oost naar west, waarbij het land aan de zuid- of noordzijde ligt. In het gebied van Vila Nova de Foz Côa heeft een tektonische breuk – de Vilariça-breuk – gezorgd voor een unieke reeks bochten in de rivier die voor verschillende zonexposities zorgen. Hier loopt de rivier van zuid naar noord, waardoor alle exposities op dezelfde plek kunnen plaatsvinden. In het noorden hebben we druiven die de wijn meer zuurgraad, meer frisheid geven, in het zuiden meer rijping, structuur. Zoals João zegt: “de pianotoetsen zijn er allemaal, we hebben alle noten om te componeren!

Kenmerkend voor de Douro en zeker voor Nicolau de Almeida is de ondergrond van Schist of leisteen. Zoals Joao zegt: "We werken in rotsen van meer dan 500 miljoen jaar oud die winterwater opslaan dat in de zomer door wijnstokken wordt geconsumeerd." De oude lagen Schist in de ondergrond geven de wijnen van Nicolau de Almeida hun kenmerkende diepgang en minerale ondertoon.

Great Teething Toy for an Active Puppy
Our 6-month-old Goldendoodle has really enjoyed chewing on these rings. They’ve been especially helpful while she’s been teething, and so far she hasn’t made a dent in them, which is impressive given how much she chews. There’s clearly some sort of flavor or scent on the toy that makes it especially attractive to her, so it keeps her engaged much longer than some other chew toys we’ve tried. The rings feel durable, well made, and are a great way to keep an active puppy occupied. Highly recommend for teething puppies or dogs that are aggressive chewers.

My aggressive chewer had it roughed up in about 10 minutes, and she lost interest.
Both of my dogs were interested in these right away and started playing with them as soon as I gave them to them. After the first day though, they lost interest. They’ve had them for a couple of weeks now and I can’t really get them to go back to them. These aren’t squeaky toys, which is usually what they prefer, so that may be part of it. The size is decent and works for both of my dogs. My smaller dog isn’t much of an aggressive chewer, but she did chew on it some. My bigger dog is an aggressive chewer (about 85 lbs), and she had this one roughed up pretty quickly. After about 10 minutes, it already had some sharp, jagged edges. That makes me a little concerned about safety since it could scratch her mouth. As far as chew resistance and durability, it didn’t hold up the way I expected for something advertised for aggressive chewers. For value, it’s not the best considering how quickly it wore down and the lack of continued interest from my dogs.
